Bark At You Communications Production May 1995 Vol 95 Issue 5
Welcome!
The team at Bark At You Communications would like to welcome you to a sample issue of our newsletter dealing with exciting cruise vacations. We hope you will welcome us into your home to be enjoy by all.
This sample plus seven different travel newsletters are publish by us on a monthly basis by either email or newsprint sent to your United States Postal address(this layout is similar to a newspaper with columns and advertise space.). We do charge a subscription fee that is similar to a club yearly charge, without all of the fuss! However, if you would prefer to just a newsletter subscription we will be happy to supply you with that feature only.
With many travel clubs they end up having so many rules you trash the information down the line because of the overkill of so much information. Or they might sell their mailing list, so you end up with a mailbox full of "junkmail". Well, let me clear some air regarding our newsletter, this is first and foremost a newsletter, not a club telemarketing scheme. You always have the choice of going to your favorite travel agent to inquire about the specials listed here. We do not require you or hard sales pitch you. The only idea we offer to our readers is a toll free phone line or email source for people to ask questions and/or book a vacation package. You do not receive a fancy club membership package with your picture plaster on which you have to remember to carry around and present for a discount. There is plenty of "clubs" out there you could join out there for that scheme. If you want one I guess we could put one together for you though or if you want a "free" (cheap) travel clock, we could find that too, but it is not our way of business. Do you join a travel club to receive discounts on cow manure or just good information on travel?
The travel service originally back in the 1950's was built on the idea to help people and that is all we want to do. Provide the information to you to create an enjoyable vacation package choice, by using the knowledge within these pages, or taking your idea to your local travel agent or giving our team of travel agents a call. One note I would like to point out is our agency is not charging any fees for booking an airline ticket, except a late booking charge for last minute tickets. Nor do we rely on the slick "bait" advertisement to get you in the door.
Remember with any sale in travel or your local department store supplies are limited to certain amounts and styles.
Our team hopes you will be able to take the time to browse through this sample issue. We would like to welcome you to join us on many more adventures.
The Editors
Ask An Agent is a forum for you the readers to ask questions and address issues that have been on your mind regarding the travel industry.
Our host for this forum is Lori Lins. Currently she hosts a show of the same name on American Online every Wednesday evening 10:00PM EST..
If you have something on your mind, you can submit an email to Lori Lins@aol.com
Dear Lori Lins:
I am looking for a vacation, however we have a 3 and 10 year old and would like to cruise. What
programs are floating out there for children? We do not want them to be baby-sat. We want to go in
October for a 7 day cruise. Can you help?!?!
Thomas Wagner
Eden, Minnesota
Dear Tom:
First of all, alot of the cruise companies are offering more children programs every year. However, a 3 year old is harder to confirm a program. If there is no other children his/her age group on this sailing. Then yes, he/she will be treated as baby-sitting or combine with other ages. No travel agent can guarantee interaction, however alot of cruise lines are starting to create a better programs for the younger child. Before booking have the travel agent check the cruise line for the latest information.
Dear Lori Lins:
I want to go to Europe next summer, my agent said she could get a lower fare by calling some
"consolidators." But why should I use them?
Shawn McClinkerton
Los Angeles, California
Dear Shawn:
Alot of agents use these companies for cheaper airfare over the waters. These companies do a volume business on certain airlines, so they turn around and give them a discounted rate. Just like any transaction if you buy in bulk you will get a better rate then buying just one. They do not offer the rates to the public. Try to pay for the tickets by credit card whenever possible. Also some airlines do not offer frequent mileage credit for these tickets. However, you can't knock the great rates!
Dear Lori Lins:
Why should I use a travel agent instead of calling the airlines direct?
Eric Melzer
Austin, Texas
Dear Eric:
Because they have a wealth of knowledge, were an airline is just one sided. With a few keystrokes they can look at all of the airlines. How long would it take you to call all the airlines? They have clients who give them feed back, plus they have travel themselves. I always believe first hand knowledge is the best. Plus if you call one of the travel infomercials or "super companies" you get a preprogram person to sell one product only. Is that right for you.. Why do it that way! Go out there and find someone you are comfortable with and start a new friendship.
Dear Traveler
I went on this big boat and disneyworld. my mom and dad had to take my little brother! He cried in the plane. mom was upset she said sorry alot. Mom had me read my books to dad and i got gum! I wanted to look at window. dad sleep and I see a diaper. i am not scared or cry like a baby. big trees. The boat was big too! mom and dad gave me paper to throw in the water. i asked for
more. mom and dad and i and ben eat breakfast Bugs bunney sat at my chair. he gave me a big hug. mom and dad took me and ben to a big room with toys. me and billy (my new friend) played with Jack (cute) a babysitter. We play games all days. I like the boat I did not want to stop. Thank you for giving mom and dad the boat. Thank you for the book. i was not scared i had fun. Legend
of the
Seas
On May 16, 1995, a new grand lady will grace the waters, the Legend of the Seas. This ship will give Royal Caribbean Cruises an entrance into a more luxurious, but affordable market. A cruise ship that is built with not only style and elegance, but with the environment in mind too.
This ship will hopefully be the leader in the cruise ship building industry working with an environmental philosophy. Gone are the apparent wastes, instead what abounds is two keywords - recycle and biodegradable.
Nevertheless, nothing can compare to the feature built on the Compass Deck, the Legend of the Links. For you golfers this is a special treat. They have taken 18 of the most challenging holes in the world and miniaturized them on this course. Yes, I said course as in golf course. No, they did not lose their mind! They actually built a golf course on the top level along with all of the hazards. Sorry could not forget the sandtraps!
Adjoining is 4,300 square feet of glass built to soothe the mind, body and soul. Created in the style of European health clubs this Solarium is created around a pool built with roman pillars circling the entrance, gleaming white tile and cozy reclining lounge chairs. You could spend all of your days aboard sampling the elegant treatments in the herbal therapy rooms, or have one of the staff work their magic fingers in the massage room. At night this place turns on the special lights, fountains and music to be enjoyed by all romantics aboard. Walking towards the center of the ship we will come upon two glass elevators that will transport us through the seven floors of glass encompassing the Centrum lobby. Every inch of glass opens up spectacular views for the eyes to see. The bottom level rivals lobbies or five star resorts with elegant staircases, reflecting pools and fountains gracing the focal point of the Champagne Terrace and Bar. This area will be the most popular on Alaskan Cruises, where the weather is not always so kind.
As we venture into the Romeo & Juliet Dinning Room the use of extensive glass is repeated on two levels. Every table is offer a view of the beauty beyond. Not a bad seat in the house, even the center section is raised slightly to create almost three levels of superb dining.
Our final journey on this impressive lady is the cabins. Gone are the drab shoe box style rooms. Instead, what is replaced is a room. Even the lowest category on this ship has two lower beds and a sitting area with a sofa. Now on other ships this would be unheard of. You could not even fit your luggage in other ship lowest cabins. Wait, you have another surprise in store when you upgrade to Category D or higher, a private verandah, bathtub and refrigerator are included. Does this sound like a resort, not a cruise ship?
The Legend of the Seas will have many routes during this inaugural year. The first cruise will sail 11 days from Miami to Los Angeles, then move up north to take in the beauty of our 49th state, Alaska for the summer. Coming back down the ship will journey over to the tropical 50th state, The Hawaiian Islands for two sailings, then back to the Mexican shores to traverse through the Panama Canal. Ending the year with 10 and 11 night sailings through the Panama Canal starting at either San Juan or Acapulco.
This is a lady that will redefine affordable style and luxury in the cruise business. Call now for discounted prices and a brochure don't miss the boat! [

Carnival Has Double The Pleasure to Mexico!
Since the departure last year of Norweign Cruise Line's 3 and 4 day cruises out of Los Angeles, Royal Caribbean has been the only kid on the block. Beginning June 5, 1995 Carnival is ready to take a bite of the short Mexico Riviera cruise market. The ship set to port of Los Angeles is, The "Fun Ship" HOLIDAY. Currently, this ship is porting out of Miami, cruising the Western Caribbean for 7 days, along with many cruises through the Panama Canal.
If you have cruised "the other lines" you will be pleasantly surprised on the large size cabins on this ship in all categories. Unlike other cruise lines Carnival prices their cabins based on the location to the public rooms. Around 90% of the cabins are the same square feet, larger then most afloat. Your cheaper cabin might be two floors down from the pool, but there is always stairs to walk off those great Midnight Buffets.
The rates are currently starting at $220.00per person, inside cabin for a 3 day cruise to Ensenada and $300.00per person, inside cabin for a 4 day cruise to Ensenada and Catalina Island. Both low rates are very limited in space. Ask about special discounts on outside cabins.
Let's have fun!
Currently readers will enjoy extra special discounts off all Carnival sailing dates up to mid-1996. The discounts range from $400 per cabin during the holiday seasons to $1200 per cabin for fall sailings.
The Carnival is Coming June 5!

Your first stop is were Richard Burton and Liz Taylor started there romance, which local's say brought the world to love Puerto Vallarta too. Stroll the Mismaloya Bay where Burton starred in The Night of the Iguana. The second stop lies just north, Mazatlan. Home to the largest shrimp fleet this side of the Pacific. Your last stop Cabo San Lucas, lies at the tip of Baja Peninsula. This area is also know as "Land's End". The rock face of this point is carved by the Pacific Ocean on the west and Sea of Cortez on the east.

Everything!?!
For the experience cruiser finding the bill at the end of the cruise can sometime shock you into a nervous condition. Especially, after you have successfully relaxed for seven days. Those days of tropical drinks by the pool has just broken your credit card. But this is they way cruises work, right? Not anymore.
A few years ago a new cruise line was born by season veterans of the cruise industry. Hearing the complaints of people who have cruised with their former employees regarding the "dreaded end of cruise bill" drove them to create a new cruise concept, all inclusive. Why not? Hotels with this concept have always had a successful operation. Why not, cruises? Together they pooled their talents to form, Silversea Cruises.
When you purchase a sailing you not only get a cabin (which on Silversea is a suite!), airfare, port transfers and meal, but included is also all alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, all gratuities ( they will not even accept or permit a tip on board!), and all port charges. Pure relaxing comfort. Just give my a week and I will put on the weight!
Along with these excellent features is the prime selling point, the Silver Cloud and Silver Wind, the ships. These "sister" ships were built in 1994 by the same parents of Cunards' Royal Viking and Seabourne Cruises fleet. Spacious suites instead of cabins line the outside of the ship, with 75% of the cabins with patios and a glass view to the world. No inside cabins on this ship! Gone are the dark closets some cruise lines call cabins, instead Silverseas suites start out a 240 square feet and go up to 1314 square feet. Other amenities in your cabin is the walkin closet, marble bath, TV, VCR, refrigerator, sofa and a fully stock bar that includes your requests only.
Comparing the cruise routes to Cunard or Seabourne Cruise Lines, they are all the same, maybe a different day for the port cities. Comparing the meals, Silverseas has a no question 24 hours a day room service. One other note, their new excutive chef was formerly with Royal Viking Line for many years. Comparing the service, lets just say the proof is in the pudding and they make great pudding. Finally the most important comparison the prices, Silverseas will come out lower every time.
With comparisons aside for the upscale luxury cruise market has always been just plain. Each ship the same luxury, the same high price, the same style of ships, the same, the same, the same, boring. Finally a company has injected some youthful stressfree attitude. I wonder how long before the "others" get the hint. People no matter what class of service want more for their money and spend less.
Standard Discounts

Family Cruising
If you thought a big red boat was the only way to go then think again. More cruise lines have become sympathetic to the families traveling in today's market. You can now find cruises that will discount even for single parent families. Half the battle is finding what is right for your clan.
A year ago there was a great family concept cruise line that had a great idea that pushed the "others" to rethink their position on catering to families. They had a whole section set aside with different rooms set aside to certain age groups. Unfortunately, they meet with an early death due to older ships, however their mark was a welcome bandage to a sore point.
The following is a list of services every family needs to know when booking a cruise. Cruise lines that do not offer any services are not included.
Cruise Lines Services Offer
American Hawaii Some baby-sitting available along with a youth center aboard

You could make this a family tradition to try a new ethic food one a month or if you are traveling there acouple of months beforehand start creating food from the land(s). This way your children will have less of a shock when they finally hit the shores. It also helps everyone get into the mood of a vacation.
